TRUE GRIT: Malmö Noise Rockers Release Two Digital Demos
Debut double-whammy from Sweden's latest noise rock quartet.
TRUE GRIT is a brand new project hailing from Malmö, Sweden. Since January 2025 the band has dropped two digital releases totaling four tracks.
We packed them both in this article to ensure you don’t miss out on the crunchy bliss these four madmen have put out. Some of the personnel of TRUE GRIT are no strangers to the pages of DIY Conspiracy, the guitarist of the band, as well as the bass player play in the doom project UURN.
So let’s get down to business.
TRUE GRIT – Harassment Accusation #1
Harassment Accusation #1 is a rehearsal recording of two instrumental pieces that sounds nasty and aggressive, and I believe manages to faithfully capture the energy of noise rock music, at least my idea about it. I’ve not heard TRUE GRIT live, so far they’ve played only one show in Malmö’s Rundgång Recordstore, you can check a little video on their Instagram page.
I’m not going to lie, I did miss some vocals or synths or just another element to lift these tracks just a notch higher. Don’t get me wrong, they’re banging and groovy as they are but this rock could certainly fit more noise inside it. However, not only was this fixed in the next portion of the TRUE GRIT’s releases but in a way that exceeded my expectations.
TRUE GRIT – UNINVOLVED
I said Harassment Accusation #1 manages to capture the band’s energy even if it’s a rehearsal recording but the studio sound of Uninvolved is a huge leap forward for what the band is doing. In their second mini-release, TRUE GRIT has gone full-on jazz noise mode, and that little spice I was missing in their debut is now provided by the addition of saxophone outbursts, noise elements, and the occasional screams or vocal/scream chops.
The tracks are lengthier and more refined but as trippy as TRUE GRIT hinted in their previous release. I might have heard that there are more recordings from this session coming soon so keep your eyes peeled and your earplugs in because TRUE GRIT is just starting.
