SØØN – WHAT THE FUCK DID WE DØ TØ THE EARTH
Fast hardcøre frøm Hawaii
Fast-paced, straight-forward hardcore hailing from Honolulu, Hawaii.
This tape consists of twelve tracks blasting through with energetic, no-bullshit hardcore that clocks in less than 10 minutes in total. Anger, intensity, and simplistic yet important lyrical themes—this is a record that ticks all boxes for me.
To be honest, SØØN’s music is nothing groundbreaking but I would deem it above average if you’re into that style. And I’m definitely still 100% into fast hardcore, especially when it comes with some great DIY & political attitude!
On this record, they do more than enough to keep things interesting with breakneck speed and groovy two-step mosh parts. The vocals also provide a constant vitriolic attack to match the aggressive music, with lyrics touching on various topics ranging from antifascism and queer-positive/trans-inclusive feminism to environmental protection and indigenous rights of Native Hawaiians to preserve the sacred site of Maunakea. This doesn’t last long though, as before you know it, the album is over.
All in all, this is a really cool release that reminds of bands like Tørsö, Punch, or Cerce. I’m looking forward to hear more from this band!
