Turquoise: Parisian Band Premiere 8 Ripping Kängpunk Blasts on “Hantise”!

Paris raw hardcore punk outfit Turquoise streaming their debut album in full.

DIY Conspiracy bringing the noise & d-beat raw punk ruckus again!

French kängpunk lovers Turquoise feature members of bands like High-Vis, Krigskade, Barren?, Rats Blood, and Ansiax among others. Their singer is Romain who wrote the impressive French punk scene report for our site back in 2019!

From their credentials, it’s clear that these fine DIY punks know pretty damn well how brutal riffing, raging d-beats and explosively energetic hardcore punk should sound like, right?

Well, listen to these eight tracks from their debut album Hantise down below and decide for yourself.

Turquoise were born in Paris in late 2018. At that time, guitar punk virtuoso Romain had just come back to the French capital after living in London for five years. There he played in High-Vis. Before that, while living in Dublin, he was a part of the furious scandicore unit Rats Blood.

Upon his return to Paris, Romain offered Jean-Phi, former bass player of local Swedish hardcore-influenced punk unit Krigskade, and current guitar player of anarcho-punk Barren? & punk-rock Going Away Party, to form a hard-hitting raw rocking kängpunk band with him. They managed to convince Thomas to get out of retirement and take care of the drum duties, and then a second Romain, the bass player for the aforementioned Barren? and d-beat thrash band Ansiax, was blackmailed into joining the band on vocals.

It was collectively decided that the lyrics should be in French, since none of them could actually speak Swedish, and would tackle vanity, blindness and selfishness that define postmodern lifestyles while the name Turquoise was chosen in order to challenge hardcore’s lexical orthodoxy.

Some gigs took place in Paris and in other French cities, The band managed to track eight songs just before the first lockdown hit. Those were recorded at Brest’s At The Movies Studio run by Jackie, who already had some neat recordings under his belt from the likes of Syndrome 81, Litovsk or Kronstadt.

In the summer of 2020, those ripping songs were then mastered by Jonas Blakklodge and this is how Turquoise’s debut record was born. This mini-album, entitled “Hantise”, that has just been released on the ever-reliable Symphony of Destruction from Brittany and the young and promising Parisian imprint Les Chœurs De l’Ennui.
