Supernova – Demo 2024

Supernova are a brand new straight edge hardcore band from London, UK. Their demo contains four tracks of classic straight ahead hardcore that pays homage to the spirit of 1980s youth crew and early 2000s melodic hardcore, while sounding relevant, fresh, and modern.

The first track “Text Me When You Get Home” is a seething introduction that furiously describes the violence faced by femmes for their mere existence. This is a musically pissed stomp that trudges through the declarations “I HAVE NOTHING BUT RAGE LEFT TO GIVE”, “SHE WAS NEVER FUCKING ASKING FOR IT”, and “MAY THOSE WHO COME AFTER US BE FREE AND MAY EVERY PREDATOR NEVER BE”. This bold feminist battle cry truly sets the stage for Supernova’s politics and ethics in an undeniable way.

“Everything” is a fist-raising, straight edge anthem that cuts through with riffs akin to the power of Sick of It All combined with the melody of Have Heart. A simple, to the point jam that perfectly articulates a commitment to sober living, this song is not one of judgment, but one of community and awareness.

The demo forges on with the melodic cut “Fence Walker”. Beginning with a melancholy Modern Life is War sounding intro, the record abandons its gloomy beginning for a crushing verse with equal parts groove and bounce. Once again, bringing back the anger from the beginning of the record, “Fence Walker” is a callout to the complacency found in those who fail to take action during vital times. Closing with the line “make no mistake, you’re no friend of mine”—you know what side they stand on.

Supernova’s debut is capped off with a fun, short outro track that tells you who the band is—a collectively-minded, committed group who has a firm sense of identity and is coming to you full of passion and pride.
