Lifegrab – Demo 2017
One-man Ultramilitant Vegan Straight Edge from Cardiff, Wales
Artist: Lifegrab
Title: Demo 2017
Release: Tape
Year: 2017
Label: Right X Choice Records
This demo is just bloody brilliant! It’s a one-man ultra-militant vegan straight edge project from the UK, and no, it’s not called Statement.
Lifegrab from Cardiff, Wales, is going for an uncompromising attitude with a three song demo for the die-hard vegan edge music collectors out there, and the sound is harsh and primitive as you might have already guessed.
The opener “Milk” is obviously about veganism, do I need to tell you how fucked up the dairy industry is? Lifegrab won’t spare you the truth.
“Milk isn’t good for anyone, milk isn’t good for you. Vegetarians? You don’t have a fucking clue!”
The next song is called ‘Elitist’ and it’s as straightforward and simple as if it came from the demo tape of any militant ’90s vegan straight edge band.
“We don’t care, we don’t care, we don’t care about your tough guy shit, we don’t care, we don’t care, we’re all sick and tired of it.”
The third song is a cover of the hardcore classic “Burning Fight”, originally by Zack de la Rocha’s Inside Out. And yes, this cover sounds like if Vegan Reich covered the song while recording their Hardline EP, which was actually released around the same time.
I don’t know what Lifegrab’s stance is on the controversial issues within the Hardline movement, but I do know that I’m still vegan, still straight edge, and I still get a kick out of listening to obscure demos like this. I also know you’d love to buy a Lifegrab cassette, so you’ll be happy to know that all music sales (tapes and digital downloads) and 50% of the profits from merch sales go directly to animal shelters and animal rights organizations. It’s a great deal, so listen to this and wave the vegan straight edge banner high!
