Hailing from the frigid northern region of the upper Midwest, Shatter is the latest addition from Minneapolis bringing a warming sense of hardcore bliss and punk rock vibes that energizes the depths our cold hearts. The band is a solid formation of some of the most dedicated and committed people to grace the frigid wasteland, and it goes without saying that they have something here that will stand the test of time.

Deny The Future is an intense barrage of d-beat fueled hardcore punk with a foot in the door of Japanese punk influence (e.g. Paintbox, Acute) with a dash of earlier UK/EU punk. This EP has an excellent melodic vibe to it that’s not a barrage of noise with no distinct direction; each song has a story, and each track stands out on its own that makes you want to keep flipping the record.

The production is spot on for a record of this type. It’s not sterile and it’s not low-fi noise, it’s exactly where it needs to be and that’s what gives it a five-star rating. The guitar has some necessary leads that elevate the music to a proper level of musicianship without sounding forced or out of place, very nicely done. Overall, the record is full of energy as the drums keep us on our feet and in check. Vocally, Deny The Future delivers well-executed content and injects our ears with fist-raising angst with clarity in the message.

The record is brought to us by Desolate Records and has the signature of what I’d consider a Minneapolis sound, and that is a good thing! Take the time to check this out, it’s well worth it.
