Burnchurch is a five piece melodic crust band from Dublin featuring former members of Easpa Measa, Silence (from Poland), Rats Blood and more. I’ve been a huge fan of Easpa Measa when they were still around until 2012 and it’s no surprise that so many excellent acts came out from the ashes of this influential band. I think they were one of the most important bands within the Irish DIY punk and crust scene. In Burnchurch the Irish are pairing up with punks from Poland, which makes it even more intriguing.
If you’re familiar with the scene that I’m talking about, I hope you’ll love this newest offering from Burnchurch. It’s a more than worthwhile release that wins it for me with its intricate modern crust sound and dual female/male vocals. All the 10 songs are full of urgency, emotion and right-on politics, while Cloadgh’s passionate vocals will remind you of favorite bands like Witch Hunt, Ballast, Preying Hands, Signal Lost, etc. A top-notch release of Dublin’s based Dogs and Vultures Records in cooperation with Contraszt! (Germany), Up The Punx Records and my beloved label Trująca Fala—both from Poland.
P.S. Despite what you might think, the band’s name comes from an actual place, the Burnchurch Castle in Kilkenny, Ireland.
