The new music platform Subvert finally launched earlier this month. For anyone who hasn’t followed it, Subvert is a collectively owned Bandcamp alternative where artists and labels can sell directly to listeners, while the platform itself is owned and governed by its members. I was digging through it for punk records to feature in my 2026 punk records collection, and that is how I came across Bomba X from Mallorca.

I hadn’t heard of the band before (although they apparently released another record in 2023), so Subvert had already done its job for me. It introduced me to something I might have missed. Since it still doesn’t seem to offer an embed player for our review articles, I’ll stick to the good old Bandcamp embed here for now.

The main reason I wanted to write about Cero Coma, though, is quite simple. Bomba X play really good punk rock. I write about plenty of hardcore punk, d-beat, crust, raw punk and other ear-drilling punk records, but not so much lately where the plain “punk rock” label feels this obvious. Cero Coma is melodic, direct, socially aware, and full of songs that you could sing along to.

There is also the language aspect, which I always appreciate. Most of the LP is sung in Spanish, but “El reis del mon” is in Mallorcan, a local language close to Catalan. I love highlighting bands who sing in less common languages. Although Bomba X are based on the Balearic island of Mallorca, the band also includes members from the UK and Argentina, and everyone involved has played in other bands before, including the legendary RASH band Oi! The Arrase.

“No lo entiendo” opens with a steady melodic drive, setting up the record’s mix of classic punk rock hooks and political messages. The guitars sound uplifting and the bass keeps everything moving, while the vocals make the song feel angry and catchy at once. “Cuanto tiempo” follows naturally, maybe even more immediate, with one of those choruses that sounds as punk as it gets. “Idiota” and “Paranoia” push things faster and bring more rage into the LP. Bomba X are not playing hardcore here, but the songs still have a real physicality to them. Sung in Mallorcan, “El reis del mon” slows the pace a little and gives the record one of its climactic moments. The rhythm section feels heavier, and the song has a darker, more brooding quality than the first few tracks.

“Tú” opens the second side with another faster, shorter and more direct approach. “Sin solucion” works in a similar way, keeping the record moving without losing the melodic thread. “El sistema”, a cover of a song originally by Inseparables, fits so naturally that it doesn’t interrupt the flow. “Descontrol” brings back the restless energy before “Venganza” closes the LP with one of its longer and slightly more dramatic moments.

The songs are melodic and immediate, but never go too far into pop territory. It is simply an anthemic punk rock LP with tracks that have their own local context, voice and attitude. Well done.
