I always thought we’ve covered this one, but it seems we’ve been too busy playing it on repeat to actually attempt to share our thoughts about it. Boden are a Stuttgart-based metal band, of The Banner, UR and Abest generation I’d say. They have a very interesting sound and as you can see from their album cover, also follow a very signature aesthetic concept.
Boden’s music is equally special as well. It’s generally slow and heavy, offering a contemporary look at post-metal maybe even doom, but with a more punk attitude. The band is also not afraid to flirt with black metal and neo-crust. Slow parts morph into epic blast-beats led sections. Delicate and slowly developing melodies often pierce the mesmerizing and grim walls of guitar sound and a very intense ambiance is deeply rooted in the whole record. Vocals are distant and desperate, they are a great final touch of the music, but sadly I have no clue what subjects are they’re dealing with.
Seriously, it’s high time bands and labels learned to upload all content on Bandcamp, because there are people who do give a fuck about that. Judging by the track titles I can only guess there’s also this dose of blackened romanticism that contributes to the overall sense of mystery enshrouding the record.
Well done girls and boys. Give us more.
